I knew it. I could sense the uneasiness and polite pleasantries on the View in May. People magazine just announced that Andy and Tessa have called off their engagement.
Bachelor Andy and Tessa Break Off Engagement
Baldwin and Horst Photo by: CRAIG SJODIN / ABC Last season's The Bachelor stars, Lt. Andy Baldwin and his chosen lady, social worker Tessa Horst, confirm to PEOPLE that they have broken their engagement but not their bond with each other.
"We are very much in love and committed to our relationship," the couple say in a statement. "With the possibility of reassignment to a new location, we decided it was not the ideal time for Tessa to uproot herself and move out [to Hawaii] right now. Our relationship continues to deepen, and we're very hopeful about our future together."
At the ABC party during the Television Critics Association press tour in late July, Baldwin, 30, told PEOPLE that the San Francisco-based Horst, 26, was due to move to Hawaii, where Baldwin is currently posted, at the end of that month.
Baldwin had selected Horst on the May 21 finale of their season on the matchmaking program. At the time, Horst told PEOPLE, "Andy brings light into any room and just lights up the room. His smile and his warmth just make him so great to be around."
About his station in Hawaii, Baldwin said, "I know that I have a year left and I may have the option of a three-year tour. There is also the option of a position in California. There is also a chance of me going back to finish my residency training. I am a firm believer that everything happened for a reason, and I am a firm believer that this happened in my life for a reason. Tessa came onto the show for a reason, and it is like a dream come true."
The next season of The Bachelor will begin on ABC Sept. 24.
I find it very interesting, first of all, that she hasn't moved to Hawaii yet. All of the press they did in late May led us to believe that she was moving out there imminently. Yet it's August, and she's still not there?? I think that says A LOT. Plus, what's up with this new info that he might be reassigned somewhere else? I thought he had a year left in Hawaii. It's all b-s. This is just the ice breaker press release so that their breakup doesn't come out of left field. And isn't it coincidental that this is coming out so close to the new fall TV season? I smell a ratings rat!

Excellent scoop, Allison!
That Tessa sure has a 'light' way with words. Yes, they so totally made it seem like her move was imminent. I knew she wouldn't stand for being an uprooted Navy Wife...but giving up over a year in Hawaii? No one can hate to move that much!
Nothing says your love is deepening than chosing to live across an ocean from one another while back-pedaling your relationship status.
Maybe she'll become the new Bachelorette??!?! She'd better start thinking up more knock-knock jokes to WOW the boys.

Hilarious! Love your comment about the knock-knock jokes. So true. And good point about giving up a year in Hawaii. He's cute enough to put up with the Navy for a year. Their comment that they are still very much in love is so bogus. I can't wait for the tabloid pics of her hooking up with some guy in San Fran. You should be our i-reporter for any Tessa sightings!
